A spreading, deciduous shrub about 2m tall and wide with spiny stems and dark green, glossy leaves, and semi-double to double, apricot-pink flowers borne on leafless branches in early spring, sometimes followed by aromatic green-yellow fruits in autumn. These can be used to make jams and jellies but please see notes on toxicity for further advice
