A small-sized, clump-forming, evergreen orchid species with narrowly oval, tesselated leaves up to 23cm long and 5cm wide. Solitary flowers, 10cm across, appear from the centre of the leaf rosette and are carried on 20-30 cm long, upright stems. The pouch (or slipper) i s a modification of the lip that traps insects and consequently provides an ''escape route'' that results in pollen collection and flower pollination. The lateral sepals are fused, mostly hidden behind the pouch. Petals are green, bright pink widened, and round at the ends. The upper sepal is bright green, dark in the centre of the flower with few, thin stripes.
