A subtropical, semi-evergreen tree, to around 15m high at maturity, though often much smaller in cultivation. Leaves are divided into 2-4 pairs of lance-shaped, glossy green leaflets. Fragrant, fluffy pompom flowers are held above the leaves, opening creamy white and maturing to yellow. These are followed by flat, tan to red-brown seed pods that coil and twist before splitting
