D. peltata is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial to 1.5m in height, with glossy, rounded leaves to 45cm in width, turning red in autumn. Clusters of pale pink flowers arise on tall stems before the leaves
R. palmatum is a clump-forming perennial. With large, lobed leaves up to 75cm long and panicles of pink or creamy-white flowers that rise on 2m long stems in early Summer, this ornamental rhubarb is an architectural plant that demands space
'Timperley Early' is a high-yielding first early cultivar. The thick stems are deep red at the base, passing to light green with red flecks; flesh is green
'Reed's Early Superb' is a vigorous maincrop cultivar with long, straight, medium to thick stems which are succulent and tender. Bright red colour grading to dark green. Has exhibition potential
R. alexandrae is a rhizomatous perennial with large, glossy, dark green leaves with heart-shaped bases and prominent veins. In early summer produces drooping sprays up to 60cm long of tiny, star-shaped, yellow-green flowers which are almost covered by hanging, creamy bracts 10cm or more long
'Rhubarb and Custard' is a rounded, bushy, evergreen shrub to about 60cm. The stems are dark purple and the small, oval leaves are grey-green with an irregular cream to yellow margin and flushed with pink, especially in cold weather. Short spikes of small, purple flowers appear in mid- to late summer
'Atrosanguineum' is a robust herbaceous perennial with broad, palmately lobed leaves that open rich purple, fading to dark green with purplish undersides; flowers bright pink, in large erect panicles
'Grandad's Favourite' produces "first early" growth. Plants are vigorous and high yielding, with thick, fairly sweet stems and good colour. Good leaf to stem ratio; suitable for showing
'Ace of Hearts' is an ornamental rhubarb; a hybrid between the giant R. palmatum and the more diminutive R. kialense making it well-suited to smaller gardens. Leaves are heart-shaped and veined red on the underside. Pale pink flower spikes rise from the clumps in early summer
'Stein's Champagne' is a moderately vigorous, maincrop cultivar with very bold, bright red colouring for the whole length of the stems
