It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
H. sieboldii is a small, compact, clump-forming perennial. Leaves are narrow, lanceolate, to 15cm in length with mid-green centres and narrowly-edged with white. Funnel-shaped, lavender-coloured flowers, on stems to 60cm, appear in mid to late summer
H. fortunei var. albopicta f. aurea makes a compact clump of broad, heart-shaped leaves 20-25cm in length, creamy-yellow, fading to dull green, with impressed veins. Funnel-shaped mauve flowers are borne on leafy stems to 75cm in length
'Zounds' makes a compact mound of puckered, broadly ovate, golden yellow leaves to 25cm long, with very pale purple flowers in mid summer
H. venusta is a compact herbaceous perennial with glossy dark green, narrowly ovate leaves to 5cm in length. Trumpet-shaped violet flowers are borne in short racemes on stems to 30cm in height in late summer and early autumn
H. crispula is a clump-forming herbaceous perennial with narrowly-ovate, wavy, dark green leaves broadly margined with creamy-white. Funnel-shaped, pale lavender flowers are borne on erect leafy stems to 75cm
'Moonlight' is a clump-forming perennial, 50cm high by 70cm across, with olive-green leaves fading to yellow-green, with a narrow, white margin. The funnel-shaped, lavender-blue flowers appear in mid-summer
'Blue Cadet' is a clump-forming perennial with blue-grey ovate leaves, slightly dimpled when mature and with distinctive, pointed leaf-tips. Funnel-shaped, lavender-pink flowers are held on erect stems, 55cm high, in mid to late summer
H. yingeri forms a small clump of mid to dark green leaves; purple flowers are borne on upright stems from late summer to early autumn
'Frosted Mouse Ears' is a dainty, clump-forming, miniature cultivar, with small, rounded blue-green leaves that have broad creamy-white margins. Violet-purple, bell-shaped flowers are borne on upright stems, around 20cm high, in summer
'Praying Hands' is a herbaceous perennial forming a clump about 40cm tall and wide. The leaves are dark green, very shiny underneath, with a narrow creamy-yellow margin. They are heavily rippled, and folded along their length, giving a very upright effect. The pale lavender, bell-shaped flowers appear in summer
