S. thunbergii is a dense twiggy medium-sized deciduous shrub with narrow light green leaves to 4cm in length. White flowers 6mm in width are borne in abundant small clusters in spring and early summer
S. douglasii is a vigorous suckering shrub with oblong leaves, grey-felted beneath, and compact terminal panicles of purplish-pink flowers in early summer
'Pink Ice' is a bushy deciduous shrub to 90cm tall, with elliptic leaves heavily speckled with white and sometimes tinged pink, borne on pink stems; domed clusters of white flowers open along the stems in early summer
'Grefsheim' is a compact deciduous shrub with arching branches carrying small, lanceolate, greyish leaves and abundant white flowers 8mm in width, in small clusters along the branches
'Candlelight' is a bushy deciduous shrub to 60cm tall, with soft yellow, ovate leaves from spring to late summer, turning to red in the autumn, and deep rosy-pink flowers in compact clusters in summer
'Venusta' is an erect herbaceous perennial with pinnate leaves composed of a palmately-lobed terminal leaflet to 20cm in width, and a few pairs of smaller, lobed lateral leaflets. Deep pink flowers in a large terminal spray age to paler pink
S. kirilowii is a vigorous, thicket-forming shrub with leaves to 30cm in length, composed of lance-shaped, toothed leaflets and, in mid and late summer, bearing terminal panicles to 40cm in length of small white flowers
'Nana' is a dense, spreading dwarf deciduous shrub with small, ovate, dark green leaves, and small but abundant heads of rose-pink flowers in mid summer
Golden Princess is a bushy deciduous shrub with ovate leaves opening reddish-bronze, becoming rich gold in summer, reddish in autumn; bright rosy-pink flowers in flattened heads in late summer
Magic Carpet is a low-growing deciduous shrub with ovate leaves opening red, and changing to yellow, always with some red young growth; flat clusters of deep pink flowers in summer
