'Goldsmith' is a clump-forming, variegated cultivar with coarse, hairy foliage marked, with green, gold and cream. Short tubular flowers in pale blue and cream are borne in spring
S. officinale blue-flowered is the blue-flowered form of the species. It bears clusters of hanging, tubular-shaped flowers in late spring and early summer
S. tuberosum is a rhizomatous, clump-forming perennial, to 60cm tall and wide, with coarse, hairy, deeply-veined leaves and hairy stems. Small clusters of pale creamy-yellow, pendent flowers are borne in spring and summer
S. grandiflorum is a rather sprawling, hairy, deciduous perennial with mid-green leaves up to 25cm long. In late spring and early summer it bears one-sided sprays of hanging, tubular, cream flowers, opening from red-flushed buds
S. caucasicum is a rhizomatous perennial eventually forming an extensive colony of erect stems to 60cm in height, bearing large lance-shaped leaves and nodding tubular bright blue flowers in summer
'Hidcote Pink' is a clump-forming perennial, to 45cm tall, with rough, oval leaves, to 25cm long, and small pink and white tubular flowers borne in clusters in the spring
S. officinale is a robust, rather invasive perennial forming a clump of erect stems bearing elliptic leaves to 25cm in length, and terminal clusters of nodding, tubular bell-shaped, purple, pink or cream flowers 2cm in length in late spring and summer
S. ibericum is a perennial to 40cm in height, with ovate leaves and pale yellow flowers opening from red buds in late spring
'Variegatum' is an herbaceous perennial to 90cm in height, with ovate-lanceolate leaves 15-25cm in length, grey-green with a broad creamy-white margin. Small tubular pale lilac-pink flowers are carried in terminal clusters
