Wisteria x formosa is a vigorous, deciduous, twining cultivar. Highly scented, pea-like, pale to mid-purple flowers are produced on short trusses about 20cm long, in early summer
'Nana Richin's Purple' is a deciduous, twining, slow-growing climber with glossy foliage divided into lance-shaped leaflets. A profusion of fragrant lavender-purple flowers are borne in long racemes from late spring into early summer
W. floribunda is a vigorous deciduous climber with pinnate leaves and, in early summer, fragrant, pea-like, violet-blue, pink or white flowers in racemes to 30cm or longer
'Alba' is a large, vigorous, twining climber, with pinnate leaves to 35cm in length, and drooping racemes to 60cm in length, composed of fragrant white flowers, tinged lilac, opening with the leaves
'Rosea' is a large, strong-growing deciduous, twining climber with dark green, pinnate leaves and drooping racemes to 60cm in length, crowded with fragrant, pale rose flowers tipped with purple, with the leaves
'Kuchi-beni'' is a clockwise-twining cultivar. The scented flowers are very pale lilac pink, with purple shading on the tip of the keel, produced in hanging clusters up to 45cm long in early summer. The foliage is pale green in spring and yellow in autumn
'Shiro-kapitan' is an anticlockwise twining cultivar. The leaves are up to 35cm long with about 11 downy leaflets. Flowers in hanging sprays 10-15cm long are white with a central yellow stain and highly scented . The bean-like seedpods are velvety and up to 20cm long
W. floribunda f. multijuga is a large twining, deciduous climber with large pinnate, dark green leaves and drooping racemes to 1m long, of fragrant, lilac flowers with dark violet markings, opening with the leaves in early summer
'Prolific' is a vigorous, nitrogen-fixing deciduous climber up to 9m high with stems twining anticlockwise, pinnate leaves of 9-13 elliptic or ovate leaflets, and many very fragrant, soft blue-violet flowers in dense, hanging racemes 25-30cm long in late spring and early summer, often followed by bean-like seed pods; it often flowers from a young age, and the flowers are visited by bees in bright or warm weather
'Lavender Lace' is a vigorous, deciduous climber twining clockwise and reaching up to 9m tall. Leaves comprising up to 15 leaflets emerge bronze-green in the spring and turn yellow in the autumn. Drooping flower racemes up to 50cm long are borne in late spring and early summer; each raceme may have in excess of one hundred sweetly-scented flowers with pale violet standards and deeper colouring on the wings and keels
