It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
'Rotschwanz' is a rounded deciduous shrub with glossy dark green leaves that colour wine-red in autumn. Flattened lacecap flowerheads with large deep red, cross-shaped sterile flowers and fertile flowers of pink and white are produced in mid and late summer
'Enziandom' is a compact, rounded, deciduous shrub, to 1.2m high and wide, with dark green, broadly-ovate leaves that turn reddish-brown in the autumn. Large, long-lasting, rounded heads of deep gentian-blue flowers are borne in the summer
'Hamburg' is a bushy, rounded, deciduous shrub, to 1.2m tall and wide, with dark green, broadly-ovate, toothed leaves. The rounded flowerheads, borne in summer, are up to 20cm across and comprised of deep rose to purplish-blue florets, some of which have serrated sepals
'Soeur Thérèse' is a rounded, bushy, deciduous shrub, to 1.5m tall, with ovate, serrated, dark green leaves. Large white flowerheads, up to 21cm in diameter, are borne from summer into autumn and each floret has a small blue eye. As the flowerhead ages, the colour fades to pale pink
'Masja' is a bushy, relatively compact, deciduous shrub, to 1m in height and spread, with glossy, elliptic, slightly toothed mid to dark green leaves, tinted red in autumn. Large, rounded, flowerheads are dark pink on alkaline soil or lighter pink in acidic soil. Flowers are produced from mid to late summer
'Blaumeise' is a vigorous broad deciduous shrub with coarsely toothed, glossy dark green leaves to 20cm long with autumn tints, and bearing flattened lacecap flowerheads of up to 15 large, lilac-blue florets in mid and late summer
'Madame Emile Mouillère' is a small deciduous shrub to 1.8m, with large oval leaves and Hortensia-type, rounded heads of white sterile florets, the sepals serrate. Sometimes tinged pink in full sun
'Lady in Red' is a rounded, deciduous shrub with toothed dark green leaves. In mid and late summer it bears large, flattened flowerheads of rosy-red sterile flowers surrounding pinkish-green fertile flowers
'King George' is a bushy, deciduous shrub growing to about 1.5m height and spread with elliptic, slightly serrated mid-green leaves, tinted red in autumn. Large flowerheads are bright red on alkaline soil and mauve-red on acidic soil, borne over a long period from early to late summer
Magical Revolution is a compact, deciduous, bushy shrub to around 1m tall and wide with dark green, ovate leaves. Rounded clusters of flowers, up to 10cm in diameter, are borne from summer into autumn and open either pink or blue before turning green-purple with time
