A strategy for conserving plants in cultivation
Following the 2006 Growing Heritage conference, the RHS and Plant Heritage (formerly the National Council for the Conservation of Plants and Gardens (NCCPG)) published the Growing Heritage Action Plan, which established the priorities for cultivated plant conservation. The plan highlights a series of key actions under each of five main objectives.

These have been taken forward by Plant Heritage and the RHS, as well as other organisations that have collections of cultivated plants.
In 2010, the Aichi Biodiversity Targets were agreed at Nagoya and, for the first time, cultivated plants were recognised as part of the planet’s diversity in need of conservation. This has given further significance to our work in this area.
