About the garden
Created at the end of the 17th century as an ‘Anglo-Dutch’ designed landscape comprising canals, parkland, woodland, formal gardens and a large country house, Chippenham Park spans more than 40 acres.
The park is notable for its vast swathes of snowdrops and aconites in late winter, followed by a spring show of daffodils, hellebores, spring bulbs and blossoms. In summer, the gardens showcase an impressive array of roses and a generously stocked Long Border. The ‘Wilderness’ is a wooded walk filled with interesting trees and shrubs, while a large grove of silver Himalayan birch is maturing into a spectacular winter showstopper.
In 2000, the four-acre Walled Garden was re-designed to include a large arched colonnade of Leylandii, grass gardens, mound, pleached ornamental pears and a theatre of yew. A rose terrace was added in 2016. Rebecca Nicolle and her husband took over the management of the house, gardens and estate in 2010.
