About the garden
Over the generations, the gardens at Doddington have been restored, cared for, nurtured and developed to their fullest potential. Remaining faithful to the original Elizabethan layout, mellow walls provide a framework for the formal East Front and West Garden. The East Front showcases the dramatic nature of the Hall’s architecture, with four topiary unicorns standing guard in the forecourt, representing the Jarvis family crest. The West Garden, reorganised in 1900 with the help of experts from Kew, is full of colour from April through September.
Beyond the West Garden lies the lovingly restored Wild Garden. The Kitchen Garden was restored in 2007 to its former productive glory, thanks to a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and now produces an abundance of fruit, vegetables, salads and herbs. Overlooking the croquet lawn, the ancient, contorted sweet chestnuts are still productive.
Free entry applies to the gardens only and not the Hall (Doddington Hall offer RHS Members Hall upgrade tickets on Hall open days).
