Since the Friends of Harlow Carr was founded it has aimed to provide a focus of interest for RHS members and volunteers who would like more involvement with the garden.
About the Friends
We continue to organise exclusive special interest visits, accompanied by members of RHS curatorial staff, to areas including the Woodland, Alpine House and the Bramall Learning Centre.
The Friends also organise general interest tours for visiting groups, and weekly garden walks giving a fascinating insight into the history of RHS Garden Harlow Carr, for guests throughout the summer.
Any profits and proceeds generated from these events are then put towards funding garden projects at RHS Garden Harlow Carr.

Projects funded by the Friends include:
- Seats in the garden
- Geoffrey Smith memorial stone
- Refurbishment of garden features
- Mobility scooters
What does membership include?
Membership costs £5 per household per year and includes Streamside, a quarterly newsletter covering:
- Updates from the curator and other senior garden staff about present and future developments
- Reviews of past events
- News of future events
- Articles about people involved with the garden
- Notes about the garden’s history
We also organise seasonal garden visits and events, for example:
- AGM at RHS Garden Harlow Carr with guest speaker
- Short breaks to visit gardens in the UK, such as in the Cotswolds or Norfolk
- Guided tours of RHS Garden Harlow Carr giving extra insight into new developments
- Evening walk with the curator with an update on plans for the garden
- Guest speakers
