Come to the library at RHS Garden Harlow Carr and see the Flora and Thread plant-themed exhibition. Featuring artwork on loan from the Captain Cook Memorial Museum in Whitby and created by the Whitby Stitchers, Flora and Thread is an embellished textile tent depicting plants gathered by the botanist Joseph Banks on James Cook’s first voyage around the world.

The exhibition pays homage to the intrepid collecting of Sir Joseph Banks, the drawings of Sydney Parkinson and the taxonomic work of Daniel Solander, which together formed the basis for Joseph Banks’ Florilegium. The panels of the tent follow the journey made by the naturalists, showing plants from Tierra del Fuego, the Society Islands and New Zealand to Australia and Java.
