Join us for a special weekend as we welcome eight Tashi Lhunpo monks to RHS Garden Rosemoor as part of their 50th Anniversary tour. Listen to monastic music and learn about their costumes. Plus, watch as they construct a sand mandala over three days with a special blessing on Sunday afternoon before it is destroyed in a moving ceremony.

Every day at 12noon join a guided walk of Himalayan plants in the Garden, meet at the centre circle.

Friday

Garden Room

  • 10.40am: Talk – Introduction to peace mandala and dedication ceremony.
  • 11am–4pm: Mandala Construction
  • 2pm–3.30pm: Drop-in workshops (Butter sculptures; mandala making; Dukar wheel making; Prayer-flag printing; Tibetan language/writing and colouring sheets)

Saturday

Garden Room

  • 10am–12.45pm and 2pm–4pm: Mandala construction
  • 10am–12.45pm: Drop-in workshops
  • 2pm–3.30pm: Performance workshop (Introduction to the Monastery, the dance costumes and dance steps; demo and explanation of debate; Mudras of Tantric prayer of Kunrik)

Sunday 

Garden Room

  • 10am: Viewing of mandala
  • 11pm: Construction of mandala continues
  • 12noon: Mandala completed
  • 12noon–1.30pm: Deconstruction ceremony and procession to Rock Gully Stream
  • 4.30pm–5.30pm: Special dance performance

We welcome car-free visitors to RHS Garden Rosemoor. When you travel to the garden by bus, train, cycle or on foot, we offer a travel discount when you provide proof of visiting car-free.

This weekend we also have a free event shuttle bus:
  • Great Torrington South Street Car Park to Rosemoor – 10am, 10.30am, 11am, 11.30am, 12noon
  • Leave Rosemoor to Great Torrington South Street Car Part – 1pm, 2.30pm, 3pm, 3.30pm, 4pm, 4.30pm
