The Wonder of Autumn - Including Plot to Plate
As summer draws to an end and the nights start to close in, there is plenty still to celebrate in the natural world. Autumn brings the annual harvest with its tradition of thanksgiving and for many, it is time to rest and recharge.
Join our 4-week celebration of seasonal delights, with a focus on all things arboreal.
On a windy day catch a leaf and make a wish, on a rainy day listen to the patter of drops on the leaves and savour the scent. On a dry day, find a pile of leaves to shuffle through or crunch them under your feet. Count how many colours you can find on one tree, see which tree has the most hues. Follow our Treemendous Tree Trail - where you can listen to the music created by trees. Follow our self-guided brass rubbing trail to discover the huge variety there is in simple tree bark. Discover our digital lichen trail to learn all about this mysterious but mighty plant form.
Every Thursday join a guided walk with our curatorial team at 12noon, they will show you the wide variety of autumn colour and interest throughout Rosemoor. Free but places are limited so please sign up on arrival to the garden.
Visit our Plant Centre to see an extensive range of trees and fruiting shrubs that can provide year-round interest (and flavour!) Then take home some delicious autumnal treats – we create preserves from our abundant harvests for you to savour at home.
Discover the delights of growing your own produce as we celebrate the humble journey from
Plot to Plate on 4-5 October. Enjoy live talks and cookery demonstrations, explore the food market, take edible garden tours and get expert advice on how to make the most of your growing spaces, large or small.
Bring the outside in and introduce more colour to your home with the The Devon Orchid Society's
Orchid Weekend on 11 - 12 October. See large displays of orchids by several orchid societies, watch potting demonstrations and get tips and advice on growing at home. Orchid nurseries will also be in attendance with a wide range for sale.
Or simply make time to indulge yourself and book our scrumptious
Autumn Afternoon tea, packed with seasonal flavours. Enjoy garden harvest soup with an apple and smoked cheddar sandwich and pumpkin and feta pinwheels. Follow with a Kabocha cheesecake choux, pear frangipane, lamington, mocha shot glass and a freshly made scone with blackberry curd. All washed down with a glass of prosecco or tea and coffee.
