During the workshop, Nigel will teach the main principles of good photography, focussing especially on those techniques that apply to garden photography. The skills will fall into two main areas:

  • How to make the best use of your digital camera: which functions are important and how they should be used on your camera
  • How to use and improve compositional skills, picking out aesthetic and graphic compositions within the environment, and then moulding them through perspective, lens and exposure control into beautiful photographic images

The workshop will concentrate mainly, though not entirely, on the photography of garden features typical of the season, such as blossoms and newly leafing vegetation in the spring, verdant foliage and radiant flower beds in summer, and autumnal foliage colours in the autumn.

Nigel Hicks has been a professional photographer for over 30 years, working mainly in travel and tourism. He has been running photography workshops since 2005 and is the sole/principal photographer or the author (or both) of over 30 books. Nigel is also a Fellow of the British Institute of Professional Photography.
