Learn what makes orchards so special and admire an exceptional show of fruit blossom at RHS Garden Rosemoor on one of 3 special tours on Wednesday 1 May 2024 as part of Orchards Networks ‘Blossom Day’. This new annual celebration of fruit trees, flowers and food celebrates orchards as magical places for the benefit of people and nature, appreciating what an important resource they are for local food production using wildlife friendly methods.

The expert edibles team at Rosemoor will lead three walks through the beautiful gardens to admire the seasonal fruit blossom extravaganza in the two dedicated orchards on May Day, viewed by many as the official start of summer.
  • 11.30am: Join Lawrence Weston (Edibles Professional Work Placement Student) as he undertakes the annual blossom records, an annual task that is helping to describe our rare Devon heritage apple varieties and monitor how the changing climate is effecting our fruit trees. Take a close look at different apple varieties, the different stages of blossom we are monitoring, and how this could all benefits our work in the future.
  • 12.30pm: Explore with Miriam Petry (Edibles Horticulturalist) Rosemoor’s two orchards, the South West orchard and the Devon heritage orchard, and learn more about what make them unique, and how they are helping conserve rare and unusual apple varieties for the future.
  • 2pm: Take a walk with our Edibles Team Leader Peter Adams, and explore what other blossom is on show around the orchards and fruit and veg garden, not only will we enjoy the apple blossom in the orchards we will take a look at some more unusual edible fruits that are putting on a show of blossom at this time of year.
