    Bas relief casting

Create a beautiful and long lasting bas relief casting of seasonal flowers picked from RHS Rosemoor. You will be guided step-by-step through the processes, from identifying suitable plants to creating a final cast ready to hang.

The day will begin by looking at the structure of plants suitable for bas relief casting, then heading outside to collect a selection of stems and flowers from the gardens. You will have the opportunity to explore elements of composition and arrangement before pressing the flowers into soft clay to create an impression that will later be transferred to plaster. Finally you will transfer your impression to plaster and finish your cast ready to take home and hang.

Tutor: Lisa Richards has been an art teacher for 15 years and has worked as an artist in residence in numerous locations over this period, creating large scale collaborative installations as well as working with students to create individual outcomes.

Location and arrival information: The workshop will take place mostly in the Peter Buckley Learning Centre, with some time also spent outside in the garden for inspiration. Please allow 15 minutes to park in the main visitor car park, enter the garden and get to the Learning Centre.

Catering: Tea / coffee and biscuits will be available in the classroom at the start of the workshop and again in the afternoon. As part of the booking process, you will choose a picnic lunch which is included in the workshop price.

For this workshop you will need:

  • Your booking reference number to show to the team at the Garden Entrance.
  • A notebook and pencil to make notes.
  • Wear old clothes and layers, and closed-toed shoes.
  • Bring a coat or suitable outer later as part of the day will be spent seeking inspiration from the garden.

Skill Level: General – I want to enjoy, discover or learn from this workshop, whatever what my existing skill level.
