Join a relaxed, nurturing and fun workshop full of creative and artistic possibilities in a bold, bright style. You will begin with some playful warm-ups to loosen up and awaken your inner artist. After a few demonstrations, you will learn techniques for sketching fruit and vegetables. Then, with a clipboard, felt tips and acrylic pens, we will head to the Fruit and Vegetable Garden to try several different drawing and sketching studies focusing on line, shape, expression and perspective.
Tutor and artist Hannah Oram will guide you through collecting inspiration, taking photos and gathering ideas to take back to the classroom. Through underpainting, then line sketches, you will work towards a final composition that you can develop through the afternoon, adding layers of colour and expressive borders, all inspired by RHS Rosemoor.
Tutor: Hannah Oram is an Exeter-based expressive contemporary painter and experienced art tutor, inspired by the simple poetry of the natural world. With a degree in medicine and a background as a GP specialising in wellbeing, Hannah brings a unique understanding of the importance of making time for creativity, connection and mindfulness to her workshops. She believes that when we allow ourselves to play and experiment, we invite joy into our lives and open ourselves to unexpected discoveries.
Location and arrival information: The workshop will be split between time in the Peter Buckley Learning Centre and time also spent outside painting in the garden if weather permits. Please allow 15 minutes to park in the main visitor car park, enter the garden and get to the Learning Centre.
Catering: Tea/coffee and biscuits will be available in the classroom at the start of the workshop and again in the afternoon. As part of the booking process, you will choose a picnic lunch which is included in the workshop price.
