A deciduous shrub to 1.3m high, with ovate, serrated, mid green leaves. In summer, compact lace-cap flower heads bear clusters of tiny fertile flowers, edged with a ring of large, showy florets with pointed petals. Flower colour varies depending on the pH of the soil, from rich pink to violet blue
