Compact, deciduous climber to 2.4m tall, with mid-green leaves and nodding, semi-double, very dark purple flowers to 8cm across with an inner skirt of similar coloured petals and stamens, flowering from mid spring to late spring and occasional flowers in summer, followed by large, attractive seedheads

How to Grow

Cultivation

Plant in moisture-retentive, well-drained soil, with the roots and base of the plant kept cool and shaded by other plants or a layer of pebbles at the base. Plant with the crown 5-8cm deep to encourage new shoots to grow from below ground level. See clematis cultivation
