Rare in cultivation, a deciduous, rounded tree about 12m tall, with leaves composed of 3 leaflets each to 12cm long, dark green, paler beneath with a felted surface, the autumn colours range from pale yellow and pink to orange and red becoming a rich, deep red lasting until late in autumn. Small yellow flowers in clusters are borne in spring then brown winged fruits follow
