This is grown as much for its ornamental value as its crop.. It has deep purple leaves and purple flowers. The small chillies go from green to purple to red when fully ripe. It is attractive to have all three colours at once, though picking will keep new flowers coming along better. It is actually a woody perennial but is almost always grown as an annual in the UK as it is hard to keep alive over the cooler months
