A deciduous climber to about 1.5m with double flowers up to 12cm across, mostly dark pink but with green and white tinges. There are eight large outer petals, and up to 200 inner petals which may be curved to create a rosette shape or quilled to give a spiky effect

How to Grow

Cultivation

Plant in a moisture-retentive, well-drained soil, with the roots and base of the plant kept cool and shaded by other plants or a layer of pebbles at the base. Plant with the crown 5-8cm deep to encourage new shoots to grow from below ground level. Can be grown in containers at least 45cm (18in) deep and wide in a peat-free, loam-based potting compost. Propagation

Propagate by double leaf-bud, semi-ripe cuttings taken from spring to late summer, or by layering from late winter to spring
