Short-lived, clump-forming, herbaceous perennials to 60cm tall with blue-green, divided foliage forming a basal mound. Large, outward- to upward-facing flowers with mid-length spurs are borne on upright stems from early spring into summer in white, yellow, and bicolours with shades of red, pink and purple

How to Grow

Cultivation

Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. See aquilegia cultivation

Propagation

Propagate by seed; home-saved seed may not come true. Established plants can also be propagated by division in spring but they dislike root disturbance, and will be slow to recover

Pruning
