A rounded shrub to 1.5m with rounded, slightly serrated, dark green leaves. The lacecap flowers, which open from mid-summer, have a dense central cluster of small, fertile florets, surrounded by widely spaced, large, sterile, double florets with pointed petals. Flowers are blue on acid soil, pink on alkaline soil, both fading to pink and green over winter
