A deciduous small tree or large shrub with a spreading habit and pointed, oval-shaped, dark green foliage turning to shades of crimson red in late summer which become gradually more intense towards the autumn. Small white flowers (bracts) appear in early to mid-summer, followed by strawberry-like pink berries in the autumn
