A bushy evergreen shrub, producing stems to 1m (39in) high and 1m (39in) across, with oval to lance-shaped dark green leaves. The plant is upright at first and then sprawling. White saucer-shaped flowers, with a central boss of bright yellow stamens, are produced on unusually long stems throughout summer. The plant requires full sun and very well-drained soil in which to grow successfully, particularly overwinter, when rainfall may be higher. This subspecies is native to N Africa, and may therefore not be as hardy in the UK as the type species
