A medium-sized, evergreen, cool to warm-growing, monopodial orchid; growing as an epiphyte or lithophyte on rocks in primary mountain forests. New growth emerges from a central tip on a long, central rhizome, covered tightly in leaf-carrying sheaths. Dark-green, channelled leaves are rigid, curved or straight. Characteristic, thick, silvery-green roots are formed at the base of the main stem. In autumn or winter, up to 75cm long racemose inflorescences appear from the main stem, carrying up to 50 fragrant flowers, each approx 5 - 6cm across. Flowers may wary in colour, but are usually white, with pale pink or pale purple lip.
