An early-flowering deciduous perennial climber with dark green leaves. Large, star-shaped mid violet-blue flowers with pointed tips, crimped edges and purple anthers turn paler as they mature and appear in late spring to early summer with a second, less prolific flush of flowers in late summer to early autumn

How to Grow

Cultivation

Plant in a moisture-retentive, well-drained soil, with the roots and base of the plant kept cool and shaded by other plants or a layer of pebbles at the base. Plant with the crown 5-8cm deep to encourage shoots to grow from below ground level. Good for scrambling up trees in a naturalistic setting. See clematis cultivation
