A medium-sized, deciduous climber to about 3m, with bright, mid-green foliage, flowering from mid-summer to early autumn. The pale purplish-pink flowers, up to 15cm across, have four to eight, broad, pointed petals with narrow bases, and cream and dark red stamens

How to Grow

Cultivation

Plant in a moisture-retentive, well-drained soil, with the roots and base of the plant kept cool and shaded by other plants or a layer of pebbles at the base. Plant with the crown 5-8cm deep to encourage new shoots to grow from below ground level. Can be grown in containers at least 45cm deep and wide in a peat-free, loam-based potting compost. Propagate by semi-ripe cuttings taken from spring to late summer, or by layering from late winter to spring
