A compact, bushy, hardy deciduous shrub with oval-shaped, serrated foliage. which emerges chocolate brown, turning to dark grey-green in summer then finally orange and golden hues in autumn. Large, upturned clusters of rich purple-blue flowers with white ray florets appear from June to September
