Trees

A slow-growing, spreading, deciduous tree, reaching a height of between 15 and 30m, with mid-green leaves. Large, bright pink flowers appear in late winter to early spring. A great addition to a large estate or parkland Named for the now retired RHS Director General. Specimens can be found on Battleston Hill, RHS Garden, Wisley and also next to the lake at St James's Park in London

How to Grow

Cultivation

Grow in moist but well-drained neutral to acid soil in full sun or partial shade with shelter from cold winds. Flowers may be damaged by late frosts. See magnolia cultivation for further advice

Propagate by softwood cuttings from late spring to early summer or semi-ripe cuttings from late summer to autumn
