A shrubby perennial with large, softly felted leaves and an elegant, arching habit. From midsummer to autumn it bears abundant, long, trumpet-shaped flowers, creamy white with a gentle fragrance, hanging pendulously from the stems. It grows quickly to 1.5–2.5 m in a season, thriving in sun or light shade, rich moisture-retentive soil, and regular feeding. Not hardy, it requires frost-free winter protection. All parts are poisonous and should be handled with care carefully.

How to Grow

Cultivation

Under glass, grow in peat-free, loam-based potting compost in full light. Water freely while in active growth and apply a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2 weeks. Keep barely moist in winter. Maintain a minimum winter temperature of about 5°C; the plants will lose their leaves but these will regrow in spring. Plants may be moved outdoors to a position in light, dappled shade in summer.
