'Royalty' is a small to medium-sized deciduous climber. Double flowers to 13cm in width produced on old wood have rich blue-mauve 8-9 overlapping rounded tepals with a mauve bar and dark purple veins and purple and yellow stamens. Single flowers on current seasons growth. Flowers late spring to early summer (double) and early autumn (single)

How to Grow

Cultivation

Plant in a moisture-retentive, well-drained soil, with the roots and base of the plant kept cool and shaded by other plants or a layer of pebbles at the base. Plant with the crown 5-8cm deep to encourage new shoots to grow from below ground level. Can be grown in containers at least 45cm (18in) deep and wide in a peat-free, loam-based potting compost.
