A tuberous-rooted perennial to about 1m, with mid-green foliage. Deep pink flowers up to 15cm across, with tiny, white tips, are produced from mid-summer until the first frost. As the outer petals open the edges roll under, creating a sunburst effect

How to Grow

Cultivation

Grow in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil, enriched with organic matter, in full sun. Pinch out growing tips to encourage bushy plants and stake - see staking perennials. Propagation

Propagate by softwood cuttings taken in spring from shoots from stored tubers, or divide the tubers, ensuring each section has at least one viable bud

Pruning
