RHS / Joanna Kossak 'Shinonome' is a small tree up to 4m high with an open, arching habit, medium-sized, deeply divided, seven-lobed leaves, toothed on the outer two-thirds, the young leaves emerging bright orange-red in spring, ageing to deeper red and then green with a deep red overtone and green veins in late summer, and turning orange-red again in autumn, and tiny, purple-red flowers in small, pendent corymbs in spring followed by red-winged fruit in late summer
