An early, medium-large apple, traditionally used for cider but now mainly grown for cooking. It has bright red stripes and flushing over green skin, with crisp, coarse, juicy and acidic, yellowish flesh. Vigorous, spreading trees produce a good crop in early autumn, fruit storing to late autumn. Requires a group 2, 3 or 4 pollinator
