A bushy, suckering deciduous shrub to 2.5m in height, with thorny branches and oval-shaped glossy green leaves. Clusters of bright red flowers are produced in late winter to early spring on bare branches, followed by aromatic yellow-green fruits in the autumn. These can be used to make jams and jellies but please see notes on toxicity for further advice
