Deciduous climber to about 3m tall, with mid-green leaves composed of three leaflets with serrated leaf margins, and semi-double, bell-shaped, lavender-blue flowers with narrow, twisted tepals 6cm long surrounding an inner pale blue skirt of petals and creamy-white stamens, flowering mainly on old wood in mid to late spring, with some occasional flowers in late summer

How to Grow

Cultivation

Plant in moisture-retentive, well-drained soil, with the roots and base of the plant kept cool and shaded by other plants or a layer of pebbles at the base. Plant with the crown 5-8cm deep to encourage new shoots to grow from below ground level. Can be grown in containers at least 45cm deep and wide in a peat-free, loam-based potting compost. Propagation

Propagate by softwood cuttings in spring, semi-ripe cuttings in early summer or layering
