Vigorous, deciduous species climber about 8m tall, with slightly hairy, mid-green leaves composed of leaflets and bearing masses of single white flowers to 9cm across, occasionally flushed pink at the centre, on long flower stalks to 19cm in length. Stamens are creamy white and young stems and buds are covered in gold-coloured down, flowering is from late spring to early summer
