Foster's Favorite Group are evergreen perennials with strap-shaped, wine-red leaves forming a loose rosette, from the centre of which arises an arching spike of blue flowers with red bracts, followed by red fruits
A. nudicaulis is an evergreen perennial forming a rosette of spine-edged, strap-shaped, grey-green leaves. Flowers small, yellow, in spikes on stems to 70cm, with showy red bracts
A. orlandiana is an evergreen perennial with strap-shaped leaves, heavily marbled with deep purple, and small yellowish flowers with showy red bracts, in conical clusters
A. racinae is a rosette-forming evergreen perennial with strap-shaped bright green leaves and arching racemes of small yellow flowers with persistent red sepals
'Del Mar' is an evergreen, perennial bromeliad forming a rosette of arching, strap-shaped, bright green leaves edged with small, sharp spines. Small blue-purple and greenish-white flowers, surrounded by showy purple-blue bracts, are carried in spikes on bright pinkish-red stems. Flower spikes may appear in any season and last for up to a year
A. fasciata is an evergreen perennial forming a rosette of strap-shaped, grey leaves with a dense central head of small purple flowers with showy bright pink bracts, sometimes followed by spherical woolly white fruit
