L. vulgare is a bushy deciduous shrub with dull green, lance-shaped leaves and terminal panicles of small, white, unpleasantly scented flowers in summer, followed by small black berries
'Excelsum Superbum' is a small evergreen tree with glossy, ovate leaves mottled with light green and edged with creamy-yellow. Flowers small, cream, in panicles to 20cm in length in late summer and early autumn, followed by black berries
L. quihoui is an elegant large deciduous shrub of open habit, with glossy, oval mid-green leaves to 4cm long, and scented white flowers in panicles to 40cm long in late summer and early autumn, followed by small, glossy purple-black berries
L. delavayanum is a compact evergreen shrub with ovate, dark green leaves and short panicles of small white flowers in early summer, followed by blue-black berries
'Curly Wurly' is an evergreen shrub or small tree, to 3m tall, with green, curled leaves that are edged in creamy-yellow and may be flushed pink when young. Panicles of small white flowers, borne in late summer, may be followed by black berries
'Aureum' is a dense, large evergreen shrub of erect habit with oval, rich yellow leaves sometimes marked green in the centre. Flowers small, dull white, in small panicles. Fruit a small glossy black berry
L. lucidum is a small evergreen tree with broadly oval, glossy leaves to 15cm in length, and small, creamy-white flowers in panicles to 15cm in length in summer and early autumn. Fruit a small black berry, seldom formed
