Flattened heads of lacecap-like flowers extend along the branches and above the foliage. Each flower has an outer ring of large, showy, snow-white, sterile florets surrounding the central group of small fertile florets and are produced in late spring with a few flowers in late summer; red fruits follow and ripen to black
'Variegatum' is a bushy evergreen shrub with ovate leaves margined with yellow, and small white flowers in winter and early spring
'Diana' forms a bushy, deciduous shrub about 2m in height and spread, with bronzy young leaves. The flowers are very fragrant, opening pale lilac- pink from red buds, then fading to white. The berries start red and turn black as they ripen
'Park Farm Hybrid' is a large, vigorous, spreading semi-evergreen shrub with glossy dark green, oval leaves to 10cm in length, and rounded heads of deep pink buds opening to sweetly fragrant white flowers in spring, followed by red, later black fruit
'Nanum Semperflorens' is a compact, dense, slow-growing shrub, to 2m tall, with ovate, deeply-veined leaves that turn attractive autumnal shades. Flat clusters of white flowers are borne over a long period from late spring to early autumn and are sometimes followed by red fruits that eventually turn black
V. setigerum is a medium-sized, multi-stemmed, upright to spreading, deciduous shrub to 4m tall. The pointed, ovate-lanceolate to oblong, slightly-toothed leaves are up to 12cm long and change in colour from blue-green to dark-green in spring and summer before taking on attractive autumnal hues. Small white flowers borne in early summer are followed by orange-yellow berries that turn a brilliant red in autumn
