It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
A. × grandiflora is a medium-sized semi-evergreen shrub to 3m, with arching branches, bearing small glossy oval leaves and clusters of pale pink, slightly fragrant flowers over a long period from mid-summer
A. mosanensis is a rounded, deciduous shrub to about 2m tall and wide with arching stems and glossy, dark green, ovate to lance-shaped leaves that turn orange-red in autumn. Clusters of scented, pink-flushed white flowers with reddish-pink corolla tubes open from pink buds in late spring and early summer
'Edward Goucher' is a compact, bushy shrub flowering on many somewhat arching stems. One of the 'glossy' abelias it has semi-evergreen foliage with a bronze tinge when young. The abundant flowers are lilac-pink while the calyx lobes surrounding them are bronze-tinged enhancing the bloom colour. A well-proved resilient plant
Z. triflora is a large, upright, deciduous shrub or small tree to about 5m. The bark is deeply ridged, and the dark green, pointed, oval leaves have a conspicuous network of veins. Clusters of small, very fragrant, pink-tinged white, tubular flowers with five petal lobes are produced in summer
A. parvifolia is a semi-evergreen shrub of spreading habit, with small, ovate leaves, and funnel-shaped lilac-pink flowers, with a conspicuous persistent reddish calyx, in late summer and autumn
Confetti is a semi-evergreen shrub with narrow, green foliage margined with creamy-white and flushed pink in spring. Slightly scented white flowers tinged pale pink appear in summer and autumn
'Francis Mason' is a semi-evergreen shrub with lance-shaped yellow leaves centrally blotched with dark green, and clusters of funnel-shaped, slightly fragrant, pale pink flowers from mid summer
'Sherwoodii' is a semi-evergreen, compact, bushy shrub to 1.2m high and 1.5m wide with arching stems and ovate, glossy green leaves often tinged bronze in autumn and winter. Panicles of fragrant white flowers tinged pale pink are borne in summer
'Brockhill Allgold' is a semi-evergreen shrub with acid-green to bright-gold leaves borne on arching stems; juvenile foliage is tinged bronze . Clusters of funnel-shaped, slightly fragrant, white flowers are produced from early to late summer
A. floribunda is a semi-evergreen or evergreen medium shrub with shiny ovate leaves and clusters of tubular cerise flowers to 5cm long in early summer
