It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
'Appen-etz' is a spreading, evergreen sub-shrub, to 30cm tall, with oblong to egg-shaped dark green leaves. Dense clusters of white flowers are borne in flat heads, up to 7cm across, from spring to early summer
'Goldsmith' is a clump-forming, variegated cultivar with coarse, hairy foliage marked, with green, gold and cream. Short tubular flowers in pale blue and cream are borne in spring
I. umbellata is a small, bushy annual to 30cm, with slender leaves and sweet-scented white, pink, purple or crimson flowers in flattened clusters in late spring and summer
'Ushguli Grijs' is a herbaceous perennial, up to 30cm high, forming dense clumps with lobed green leaves, tinted red in autumn, and grey-blue flowers, with purple veins, in early summer
'Fischbeck' is a compact, evergreen subshrub forming low-growing mounds of short, narrow, dark green leaves to 15cm high covered with rounded heads of pure white flowers from late spring to early summer
'Snowflake' is a compact evergreen sub-shrub to 25cm tall, with narrow, dark green leaves and short racemes of small white flowers in late spring and early summer
I. sempervirens is a spreading evergreen sub-shrub to 30cm in height, with narrow, dark green leaves. Flowers pure white, in dense heads to 4cm in width, at first flattish, later becoming rounded, from late spring
'Masterpiece' is an evergreen, mound-forming sub-shrub, to 30cm tall, with narrow, linear leaves. In spring and summer this cultivar bears masses of flower clusters; each cluster is up to 7.5cm in diameter and comprises pure white flowers with a pale pink centre and yellow stamens
I. violacea is a mat-forming, evergreen perennial, to 15cm high, with prostrate or ascending stems and fleshy, narrowly-oval to lance-shaped leaves. White to lilac flowers are borne in flat clusters from spring into summer
S. ibericum is a perennial to 40cm in height, with ovate leaves and pale yellow flowers opening from red buds in late spring
