It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
'Belle Etoile' is a compact medium-sized deciduous shrub of arching growth with ovate leaves; highly-scented single white flowers to 5cm in width, tinged purple in the centre, in late spring and early summer
'Sybille' is a small, arching small deciduous shrub with ovate leaves and single, fragrant, creamy-white flowers 5cm in width, tinged purple in the centre
'Variegatus' is a medium-sized deciduous shrub with ovate leaves broadly margined cream. Flowers 2.5cm in width, creamy-white, very strongly scented, opening in early summer
'Innocence' is a bushy deciduous shrub to 2.5m tall, with arching branches bearing ovate leaves splashed with yellow, and fragrant, cup-shaped white flowers 3.5cm wide, in early summer
'Mexican Jewel' is an upright, deciduous shrub with small, widely spaced leaves and very sweet scented, downward facing, white flowers with a purple stain at the base of each petal, produced in early to mid-summer
P. schrenkii is a large, upright, deciduous shrub with peeling bark and very fragrant, white, four-petalled flowers, 3cm wide in clusters of five to seven. One of the earliest Philadelphus to flower, in late spring and early summer
'Manteau d'Hermine' is a compact small deciduous shrub with relatively small ovate leaves and fragrant, double creamy-white flowers to 4cm in width, in small clusters in summer
'Dame Blanche' is a compact, bushy, deciduous shrub to 2m tall and wide with arching branches and oval, dark green foliage. Fragrant, semi-double to loosely double pure white flowers up to 2cm in diameter are borne from early to mid-summmer
'Aureus' is an upright, medium-sized deciduous shrub with ovate leaves bright yellow when young, later greener. Flowers 2.5cm in width, creamy-white, with a strong, heavy scent, in early summer
'Dainty Lady' is a deciduous shrub to about 2m, the branches upright in their first year then arching over in bloom in their second. The flowers are very fragrant with white petals opening from a dark red calyx. The stems are red-brown in winter
