It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
'Fire Hill' is a small deciduous shrub with narrow, glossy dark green leaves and bowl-shaped deep pink flowers opening before and with the leaves in spring
'Penny' is a fairly compact, late-cropping cherry, with large, firm, dark red fruit. Bred for British conditions, is not self fertile, and is ready to pick in late summer
'Shidare-yoshino' is a cultivar with weeping branches, arching to the ground. It produces a profusion of racemes of 5 or 6 bowl-shaped, pale-pink flowers, fading to nearly-white and 4cm across, in early spring before the dark green leaves emerge
P. padus is a large deciduous tree with toothed, ovate leaves turning yellow in autumn, and pendant racemes of frgrant white flowers 1cm wide in late spring, followed by small, bitter black fruits
'Umineko' is an upright tree with pale green young foliage, later dark green, and single white flowers 4cm across in spring
'Trailblazer' is a broadly-upright, deciduous tree with oval, red-purple leaves. Bowl-shaped, white or pale pink flowers are produced before the leaves in mid-spring, and sometimes followed by edible, plum-like, red fruit
'Autumnalis Rosea' is a small deciduous tree of spreading habit with ovate leaves turning yellow in autumn, and pale pink, semi-double flowers opening during mild weather from late autumn to early spring
'Pissardii' is an upright, rounded, twiggy tree with very dark red-purple leaves. The pale pink flowers, soon fading to white, open in early spring with the leaves and may be followed by dark red, edible, plum-like fruit
'Kanzan' is a medium-sized deciduous tree, stiffly vase-shaped when young, later spreading, with coppery-brown young foliage and vivid purplish-pink double flowers 5cm in width opening from crimson buds
P. cerasifera is an upright, rounded, twiggy, deciduous tree producing small, white flowers in early spring as the leaves open, sometimes followed by edible, red, orange or yellow, plum-like fruit about 2.5cm long
