T. tomentosa is a large, deciduous tree of variable habit but usually broadly pyramidal reaching to 25m high. Erect branches are often pendent at their tips with white-felted shoots. Rounded leaves 5-13cm long are sharply-toothed, dark green above and covered in a silvery-white felt beneath, turning yellow in the autumn. Fragrant, small, creamy-white flowers are borne in late summer
T. henryana is a slow-growing, medium-sized tree with a rounded crown, eventually reaching up to 25m in height. The broadly-ovate leaves are up to 13cm long, softly downy on both surfaces and edged with bristle-like teeth. Foliage often emerges red-tinged. Clusters of fragrant, creamy-white flowers are borne in summer
T. mongolica is a slow-growing, medium-sized, deciduous tree to 15m tall with a rounded habit. Leaves up to 7.5cm long and held on long stalks are glossy, coarsely-toothed or 3-5 lobed and turn from green to yellow in autumn. Clusters of fragrant yellowish-white flowers are borne in summer. The bark becomes fissured with age
T. cordata is a medium-sized deciduous tree with a spreading or rounded crown, and glossy dark green, heart-shaped leaves to 8cm in length, turning yellow in autumn. Small, fragrant creamy-white flowers are borne in spreading clusters in summer
A. cordata is a vigorous deciduous medium-sized tree with shiny deep green leaves. Male catkins yellow, to 10cm in length. Fruit 2.5cm in length, cone-like
'Rubra' is a large vigorous deciduous tree of rather erect habit, the twigs reddish in winter. Heart-shaped dark green leaves to 12cm in length, and clusters of small, fragrant yellowish flowers
'Winter Orange' is a selection of this medium-sized deciduous tree that has red buds and orange winter shoots. Leaf colour in autumn is butter-yellow. Small, fragrant creamy-white flowers are borne in spreading clusters in summer
'Petiolaris' is a vigorous and elegant large deciduous tree with pendulous branches bearing heart-shaped dark green leaves whitish beneath. Clusters of highly scented yellowish flowers are narcotic to bees
T. × euchlora is a large deciduous tree with spreading or arching branches and green young shoots bearing glossy deep green leaves turning yellow in autumn. Fragrant cream flowers may narcotise bees
